Edwidge Danticat


  • Edwidge Danticat was born on January 19, 1969, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
  • Initially her parants wanted her to focus on the medicineDanticat went on to study French literature at Barnard College in Manhattan, later earning a creative writing graduate degree from Brown University in 1993.
  • She was brought by her uncle after her parants moved to New York. She leatrned English by 12, and then used that language to write. She published her first poem when she was 25.
  • A uthor of several books, including Breath, Eyes, Memory, an Oprah Book Club selection, Krik? Krak!, a National Book Award finalist, The Farming of Bones, The Dew Breaker, Create Dangerously, and Claire of the Sea Light.
