Devising Performance

For the past two weeks, we have been learning about different types of performance and theaters. This week, we learned about devising performance, how it works, and what it is in real life. Our task was to devise a performance and perform it in class in front of our peer’s. My team created a story about a boy who has social communication problems and problems with his mother. He is depressed and his Conscious makes him feel worse because of the mood that it puts him in. His dad  died in a car accident and Thio, my character, was there with him and saw everything. He was lost, thinking that his mother never loved his father and that everything in his life was a lie. What made him think like that was his Conscious that made him angry and blocked him from social life. The part of the story that I created is my character Theo and his surroundings, like his mood and his problems. What helped me to create my character were my surroundings and what’s going on with people my age; many people my age get depressed and tired of their lives. This brought me to the idea of a boy who lost his father and it destroyed him and broke his heart, and at the same time Conscious trying to break his mind completely and talking about how his mother never loved his father. This makes my character week and nerves. My group was  creative in making their characters and performing them; the most important part was to improvise our first performance and I think we did well on that. In our performance, we made a  couple of mistakes, like standing in front of our peers without making eye contact with them and our facial expirations weren't good anought because some of us started laughing. From our performance on Tuesday I learned things like improvisation and devising performance. In my next performance on Friday, I would like to improve our context and eye contact with audience. How to keep the idea while you don’t have your script and how to create the idea. I notice many thoughtful and positive factors from other teams’ performances, such as the way they were improvising and the length of their context. This project helped me with understanding what devising performance is and to experience performing this context in real life.
