  • Francisco Duvalier was also was known as Papa Doc born on April 14th, 1907. Duvalier graduated in 1934  from the University of Haiti School of Medicine, where he served as a hospital staff physician until 1943, when he became prominently active in the U.S.-sponsored antiyaws campaign.
  • Toussaint Louverture w- The island that was found by christopher columbus in 1492
  • - The spanish and french fought of this land in (1689)
  • -the island was divided one half french and the other spanish
  • -The revolts start in in (1791) led by toussaint
  • The Haitian Slave Rebellion begins in 1791
  • -discrimination in the colonies ends in (1792)
  • -british invade santo domingo to to stop the slave revolt in (1793)
  • All slavery was ended in french french colonies in (1794)
  • France and British War starts in 1803
  • -Jean Jacques declares independence and names the Country of Haiti in 1804
  • -Country of Haiti divided into two parts (1807) called the Republic and The Kingdom of Haiti
  • - Haiti finally has independence in (1862) (Second country to have independence)
  • Haitian Revolution from (1791-1804)
  • Haiti gained independence from France and ends slavery
  • Many Slaves died from their conditions and had little treatment
  • Non aggression treaty with British (1798)
  • The war of knives (1799)
  • People were back to restore the economical issues/Toussaint forced labor on the plantations (1800)
  • Napoleon wants to restore the slavery by capturing the Toussaint (1801)
  • Toussaint exiled to France and died ( 1802)

  • 1971 ( Baby Doc ) Duvalier's son. Dictator/ President.
  • 1990 - 2018 still a disaster and the environment crisis.












Historical Figures:

  • Rafael Trujillo used to be a dictator of the Dominican Republic for decades. He was born October 24th, 1981 in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic. Became the president in 1930, official been on that post till 1938.
  • born in may of 1743 and died april 1803.  He is known as the best leader in the Haitian slave revolt.  He died before the revolt was over but he was the reason the slaves won he taught them tactics and strategies to win this revolution

Ivan Kapkov IB Literature & Performance Ms. Guarino Review  “The Caucasian Chalk Circle” On Friday 11/11/17 I visited a play that was adapted by my classmates. The name of the play is “The Caucasian Chalk Circle” by Bertolt Brecht written in 1944 while he was living in America. Interesting fact about the performance is that it was initially made for Broadway, but the play didn’t go that far so students started presenting it in their schools and colleges. The play was initially translated by Eric Bentley. This play is based on the aftermath of WWII, in which the “villagers” are complaining on who will control the valley . This play focuses on an act of true love and courage performed by a servant girl named Grusha Vachnadze and how she is judged by society regarding to her choices. Ch 6/7

Chapter 6 starts with the description of the environment, and the growth of the seeds after the storm season which brought a large amount of rain on to the island. Later in the chapter, we can witness the conversation that Desiree is having with Tonton. That conversation shows the reader the conflict and the difference between the poor and the rich. Their conversation is mainly focused on Tonto describing his hometown Monsieur beau home. After listening to Tonto for a long time and hearing all those tempting things about Monsieur beau home, she is desperate to leave her village and see new opportunities and new life. However, the people in her village don’t think it's the right idea. Chapter 7 : This chapter starts with prayers that Desiree send to Gods. "Caroline's Wedding"

The story that includes many characters and their struggle throughout the Story. "Caroline's Wedding" contains 3 main characters; the narrator Grace, older sister Caroline, and their mother Hermine. Each character has her own obstacle to get through.  The story begins with Grace receiving good news from the embassy, saying that she received U.S citizenship. She immediately called her mother and sister and shared the good news. Her mother told her immediately to make an appointment at the embassy and get her documents and her passport so that she can leave the country as soon as possible.  However, their family always had an issue with their paper works and documents.    On behave of the paper works and preparation to leave her home to porsue her future life and career, she has to stened between her mother and sisire becausethe get into fights/disagreements.
