The Importance of being Earnest ' Analysis '

On Tuesday, November first two thousand eighteen, I was given an opportunity to visit a play written by Oscar Wilde and directed by Cheshire Academy crew named “ The Importance of Being Earnest “. The play was presented in Cheshire Academy Theater “ Back Box “, it was cast and directed by faculty members, students and Alumni og Cheshire Academy. The producer of the play Ms Guarino, another Cheshire Academy faculty member Mr Alfaiate who took care of the set, two Cheshire Academy alumni Aidon McBreen production manager, and Cheng Cheng lightning consultant, student Peter Deng who took control of scenery of the play, and last but not list Mrs. Allison Bass-Riccio the assistant director. All the crew did a great job on selecting the cast members who participated in this project in the best way the possibly could: Krystal Charter “ Lane/Gribsby”, Tasman Fox “ Jack Worthing”, Zoe Genden “ Dr. Chasuble “, Mao Inoue “ Cecily Cardew “, Jiaxin Li “ Lady Bracknell”, Stella Liang “ Merriman “, Aaron Luo “ Algernon Moncrieff “, Amelia Williams “ Gwendolen Fairfax”, Huijin  Zheng “ Miss Prism “ did a great job on their part and deliver as much as they should have.
The Importance of Being Earnest  is an enlightening example of clever comedy and enthusiastic performance rotating around a serious and well respected group of individuals. An example of upper-class community judging simple things by its appearance and regulations. The beginning of the story introduces the audience with two main characters Algernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing “ Earnest “. The main plot of the story is, rotating around the name Earnest and the fact that this name almost produced an engagement. Jack Worthing who introduces himself by the name of Earnest proposes to  Gwendolen Fairfax, however, cannot marry her, initially because of his friend Algernon Moncrieff, her cousin. Algernon refuses to approve his proposal/ marriage until Jack will let him marry Cecily who is Jack's ward, she is a granddaughter who adopted Jack from a young age and now has to take care of Cecily whom she calls Uncle Jack. This story really and exposes the uncomfortable positions and obstacles that characters create in front of each other. The nature of real marriage, marriage is the main subject that creates the climax and observes the storyline. The story rotates about lies and disagreements and resolves only by the the truth, which would only be delivered by love.
The set of the play was formed in the way that I had never seen before, mostly because the black box was structured differently than it used to be. Set director did a great job by providing the audience with little nuances and props for example like sandwiches  that made the scene funny and creative. The relationships onstage between characters are essential, so is the relationship and interaction between actors and audience. Staging is the reason people are connected to the actors and the environment; setting can show the background story and reveal nuances that actors could not. Producer maintained the culture and the atmosphere of the nineteenth century by accommodating the set with classic old chairs mirrors and detail that we would not see in our generation. The producer did a great job on highlighting new characters everytime they appeared on the stage what made it easier for the audience to observe the character. All the characters on the stage were delivering their importance which played a significant role in the story; there were two main characters who delivered the same importance states and were highlighted the same. All the characters came from different backgrounds and supported their purpose with their vision, however the two characters whose background was talked the most were Algernon Moncrieff and  Jack Worthing. Jack Worthing who is a protagonist in the story, a well-developed man who lives two lives. Became an orphan at a young age and got picked up by Cecily’s grandfather. Became respectable and a strong man. Algernon Moncrieff second main character and protagonist of the story who is described as an intelligent, charming, and smart individual.
Every single actor who took place in the play did a great job and performed in the best way they could. However, I have to give a round of applause to Aaron Lue who played a significant role as an Algernon Moncrieff. I want to specifically highlight his performance because I can imagine how many monologues he had to learn and how much time he spent into observation and understanding the character. Maintaining the confidence and learning little nuances about the character like Algernon Moncrieff will take much time, considering how he talks walks and communicates with others what in my opinion is the most significant part of acting. Aaron delivered all the emotions and also added something from himself what defines a good actor. The one scene that I still have a full vision of was the first scene where Algernon Moncrieff was talking to Jack Worthing and eating sandwiches and kept talking what was incredibly funny and at the same time impressive.
This play created a perfect view of how wealthy people lived in the 19th century and faced the most straightforward obstacles and turn them into something unimaginable hard to solve. The cast and the crew did a great job in delivering the emotions and particular moments that would be tough to highlight but real perspective.
