My Love My Love or a peasant girl is a story based on people whose beliefs focused on the polytheistic belief a religion in which people rely and suppose on multiple gods. Each chapter in this book contains specific parts where they mansion the Gods; however, so far there was only one chapter which gave a full description of four gods; specifically chapter eight passage six. In this chapter, Desiree ran away from home to find Daniel who lives in a completely different environment in part of the rich island in Beauxhommes.
On the way there she fell asleep and dreamed of all for Gods. The moment Desiree fell asleep, she started dreaming about gods.
“ Agwe - tall, beautiful, his high head of the richest blue, green seaweed decorated in gold- strutted back and forth as he had in the houngfor, his wicked eyes a blazing blue. The arrogance with which he threw back his head.” “Asaka sat sulking, looking drab and ragged in a brown dress. Erzulie, forever lovely, paraded her self so vainly.” “Papa Ge with a smug smile on his mouth, his bloodied teeth clutching a cigar, and looked beyond Age, Erzulie, and Asaka.”
All those Gods are different in their way; not only the power they contain nor their personality and characteristics it’s their style that matters when representing them on stage. If I were to describe/serve them in one of my theatre performance, I would love to include a variation of history with a bit of modern style and ways.
Agwe as Desiree described her in the book, and she represents the beauty and power, Agwe is, in my opinion, the main god in the book since she is the god that Desiree look up to and listen to. Agwe is a tall, and beautiful, which allows me to obtain all those characteristics into making her the most noticeable god on the stage. By bringing all the high head of the wealthiest blue, green seaweed decorated in gold- strutted back and forth as he had in the houngfor, his wicked eyes a blazing blue; I can identify his true nature and personality.
Asaka is a character that doesn't really on fancy dresses nor any props to identify her personality. So I wouldn't change anything besides making her more powerful in terms of representing her status as being a God.
Erzulie she is a god of love, her characters represent the most vulnerable feeling that a human being can feel and express. In my imagination she would be the character who shares a passion with others, however, without appreciation, she will be fearless and will show no mercy. In my play, she would obtain the most power and strength.
Papa Ge the devel, a god who takes lives and has no mercy nor feelings for anyone. Papa Ge with a smug smile on his mouth, his bloodied teeth clutching a cigar, a character who is not scared of anyone and who looks beyond Age, Erzulie, and Asaka. Papa, He would be the character that can take anything any time without even thinking, he is passionate about what he does and he loves and enjoys suffering and death.
