Ivan Kapkov IB Literature & Performance Mrs. Guarino Introducing Romeo and Juliet In Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet , the two main characters are part of  different families that are enmity for many years. Romeo, son of the Montague family, is about 16 years old. He is a handsome, strong, and intelligent young man. Romeo is an extremely passionate character that will follow his dreams and at the end he will succeed and achieve what he worked for. Romeo is part of a violent vendetta between his family and the Capulets, but he himself is not interested in violence and he doesn't want to be part of this war. Rather, he is the  kind of character who wants to be free from everything that is around him, and  is more about love and peace between the two families. In the beginning of the story, before meeting Juliet at the party, Romeo is in love with a woman named Rosalind, who is Juliet's cousin. At the party, from the first look he falls in love with Jul...

In class writing

Ivan Kapkov IB Literature & Performance Mrs. Guarino In class writing  Yesterday our class had really interesting and hard activity. We had 3 groups of people each group had different amount of time to make their version of Romeo and Juliet. My group had only 30 seconds to show that play, but what we decided to do is to choose one of the most important moments in the story and perform it to the class. The part of the story that we choose is when Paris comes to Julieta while she sleeps “ but people think that she is dead “ and tells her how he loves her and expresses his feelings, and then Romeo comes to the room and sees Paris and they starting fighting Romeo kills Paris and then kills himself, Julieta is awake. From this activity I  learned how to make a play shorter and to make it that way that people will understand.

Romeo & Julieta ACT1

Ivan Kapkov IB Literature & Performance Mrs. Guarino Romeo & Juliet Act 1 notes From reading the first Act of Romeo & Juliet I understude why people always tell me that this specific story is really hard to read and understand because many words are really difficult to understand, because of vocabulary that they used at that generation. From my understanding act number one talks about how both families are alike but still hate each other. Their kids love each other and the only thing that destroys their future together is their families enmity. Romeo's and Julieta's plans didn't work but they were so close. Their families  kill each others people for nothing, just because of their past. But Romeo and Juliet will forever love each other and nothing can break their connection. Only their children death brought two families together. The point of first act is to introduce the the story, basically it's a small introduction helps reader to get the p...

Ivan Kapkov IB Literature & Performance Mrs. Guarino    Devising Performance For the past two weeks, we have been learning about different types of performance and theaters. This week, we learned about devising performance, how it works, and what it is in real life. Our task was to devise a performance and perform it in class in front of our peer’s . My team created a story about a boy who has social communication problems and problems with his mother. He is depressed and his Conscious makes him feel worse because of the mood that it puts him in. His dad  died in a car accident and Thio, my character, was there with him and saw everything. He was lost, thinking that his mother never loved his father and that everything in his life was a lie. What made him think like that was his Conscious that made him angry and blocked him from social life. The part of the story that I created is my character Theo and his surroundings, like his mood and his problems. W...

Devised theater notes

Ivan Kapkov IB Lit & Performance Mrs. Guarino Devised theater Notes: Devised theater is mostly comedian shows. Devised theater also known as Collaborative creation. Monologues or text in this theaters is not written by other people it made by performers and it's more like an improvisation on the stage. By the time they perform,  the monolog is fixed but there are still moments where performers improvisat. Its very hard to talk with the audience without using any written texts, so there are methods that help people to improvisate better very common method is to begin by focusing on form, and then extract thematic ideas and then work with using those ideas in real form. Using games. Different theaters started experimenting and developing the idea who is actor and how to improve their skills. However when the actors practicing or performing they don't have any idea of what they are talking about. It depends on the audience who actor c...

Blog post #2

Ivan Kapkov IB Lit & Performance Mrs. Guarino Blog post #2 Monolog experience. This week my class and I took a big step in our academic career and in terms of our personal experience .  For the past two weeks we were preparing our monologues for an act that we did this tuesday. It was a long process because firstly we choose the monologues that we want to act, then we cut some details from the monologue that we didn’t like or if the monologue was too long. For me the toughest part was to become this character and to express all the feeling that he provides in his role. The character that I was playing is Troy. He is the most highlighted character in this play who truly believes in anthropomorphized death, and talks to the death throughout the play. I created his emotions in myself by  reading this monologue many times and watching the part of the movie where he talks to death and the emotions that he expressed talking to death. I improved my skills with showing...

Monolog, Troy -- (talking to Death)

Ivan Kapkov IB Literature& Performance Monolog  Troy -- (talking to Death) In this monolog the main character is Troy, he is talking to  death that came to the women that gave berth to Troys baby. In Troys speech we can see and understand  that he is upset and angry, he started talking to death and describes what he will do to stop her and when death should come for him. His monolog with death was shot in the house at late night after his girlfriend died, it was really powerful monolog with all emotions that there are. I choose this monolog because it shows how men being so brave and strong for everybody for a moment becomes weak and helpless.  Alright Mr. Death. see now... I'm gonna tell you what I'm gonna do.I'm gonna build me a fence around what belongs to me. And then I want you to stay on the other side. Then when you ready for me, When the top of your l...

Play Review "Romeo and Juliet"

Ivan Kapkov IB Lit & Performance Mrs. Guarino 3/2017   Play Review "Romeo and Juliet" This Friday 09/01/2017 my IB Lit & Performance class went on the trip to see one of the oldest and greatest plays in the world, "Romeo and Juliet". It was my first time seeing this play or something that was constructed that way. Everything in that exact play was build perfectly, the facility this play was built in, costumes, but what made me laugh and confused is the music that was on background. The songs that were playing in this play is the music from our generation. The most obvious and interesting part in this play was that all characters that were playing their roles in this play were highlighted, and in many other plays, where minor characters stay in the background, you won't see something like that. "Romeo and Juliet" is a drama as it’s supposed to be, but the director, producer and actors that were working o...

Monolog

I always was the shortest kid in my class and it was taught and at the same time it helped, like when we played sports it was easier for me to get trough everyone. It was easy for me to sneak out from the class or to the class, in genera sometimes I thought that I was the biggest one. There were also times when I thought that I was different from other kids in my grade just because I'm smaller.  It happened so fast that I can't even remember how form 5.4 I grew up to 5,10 in less then a year. On my thanksgiving break I came back to Russia and all my friends and family were confused how come I changed so much. From my experience I you never shuled think that some one is better then you or you are different form someone just because of your size.
